We would like to continue celebrating our residents’ journeys to recovery, one step at a time. Crystal, a senior resident, shared her story with us this week along with her impactful experiences at Magdalene Serenity House and her goals for the future.

Crystal’s Story

I’ve been in and out of prison my whole life, and I just couldn’t get ahead. I was stuck in a cycle of the system. I had old baggage that I needed to deal with.

My counselor in RPF (prison) suggested I check out Magdalene Serenity House. I chose to come to Magdalene because I knew I needed help. I was in too big of a mess to dig myself out. After I got here, I knew I was in an environment where I could grow and flourish.

During my time at Magdalene Serenity House, I have learned to interact with people in a healthy way. I have gained skills to prosper and be proactive and productive. Now that I have a solid foot on the ground, my path has cleared enough so that I can see where I am going. I have learned to be a woman.

I am so proud of all I have accomplished here. I have bought two vehicles, scored a well-paying job, worked off my fines, and gained my independence. I finally feel like I have gotten my head above water. In the future, I plan to make lead at my job, pay off my truck and eventually buy a house or land.

My advice others in recovery to try something different and come to Magdalene Serenity House!

We want to give a special thank you to Crystal for sharing her story and experiences at Magdalene. We are so proud of you, Crystal!
